BT Chairman has sole broadband connection in a broadband unconnected village
TT Bureau |  |  01 Dec 2009

British Telecom (BT) Chairman, Sir Michael Rake is the only person to have a broadband connection in a village on the Oxfordshire-Buckinghamshire border.

The company while admitting this says that the Chairman has been provided the connection as part of trial. "Trials of new technologies are often conducted among a company''s own staff so there is nothing unusual in this situation. BT has learnt a lot through the trial the chairman participated in and hopefully those lessons will benefit the residents of Hambleden in due course,” says a official statement from the company.

Earlier, the company had told interested people from the village that broadband connection could not be provided because of the long distance of the village from the exchange.

Villagers have now gone to the extent of demanding resignation of the Chairman terming preferential treatment to the Chairman.
