Union Communications Minister, A Raja on Monday said in the Parliament that Reliance Communications (RCom) was found of under reporting of revenues to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore resulting in a loss of Rs 250 to the exchequer.
“There was an under-reporting of Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,500 crore by RCom to avoid payment of licence fees and the government may have lost about Rs 250 crore due to this,” the Minister replied to a question asked in the Lok Sabha.
He said that DoT will take appropriate action in January next year and a committee headed by Member Finance is already reviewing the findings of the auditor’s report.
The Minister’s statement is based on findings of an audit conducted by Parakh & Co which submitted its report in October this year alleging that RCom had deliberately resorted to under reporting of revenues.
RCom had however refuted the allegations and had in fact accused the auditor of not even sharing the findings of the report with it before leaking it out to the media. Rcom said on Monday its stance on the issues remains the same as earlier. “RCom strongly affirms that it anticipates no additional financial liability towards licence or spectrum fee. The special auditor’s report...is incorrect, hopelessly biased, one-sided and prejudiced.”
