Global telecom major, Huawei Technologies claims achieving the number one spot for wireless base station shipments in the year 2009 overtaking market leader Ericsson.
Huawei says it achieved sales amounting to USD 10 billion last year from wireless equipment solution offerings. This unit accounted for 33.33% of the company’s total revenues. Its total revenues exceeded USD 30 billion in 2009.
Its market share in the global telecom gear market stood at 20.1% at the end of Q3 2009 as compared to market leader Ericsson’s 31.6% as per market research firm, Dell’Oro Group. Others to follow include NSN with 19.4% market share, Alcatel-Lucent with 13.1 % and ZTE Corp with 6.8%. Huawei’s market share increase was almost on a 100% rise as its market share in Q3 2008 was 11 %.
Even in optical networking segment the company last year overtook market leader Alcatel-Lucent.
Huawei also claims significant head start advantage in the LTE segment having already concluded five LTE deals in 2009.
For the year 2010 the company is expecting a modest growth in revenues to USD 36 billion from USD 30 billion in the year 2009. This is still remarkable as Western world counterparts such as Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks in particular witnessed dwindling revenues and net profits for the whole of last year. |
