Mobile TV
France witnessing significant uptake of mobile TV services
Agencies |  Paris |  22 Feb 2008

Mobile TV may still be months away from commercial launch in India. But the service is already creating waves in France which is witnessing increased preference for the service amongst the subscribers.

Orange had announced in December that it has one million mobile TV subscribers. Competitor SFR meanwhile claimed to have 350,000 mobile TV subscribers till January. And now Canal Plus has announced that it recorded more than 250,000 mobile TV subscribers.

This results in a 225 per cent increase in subscribers as compared to subscriber base in 2006. Canal Plus has two packages accessible on mobile. Canalsat Mobile includes more than 50 TV channels including M6, Eurosport, i Télé, MCM, Comédie, Canal J and Planète while Canal Plus Mobile includes free to air programmes from the original Canal Plus TV channel and four channels covering themes such as comedy, cinema and series, sports and news, and adult.
