SC objects to S Tel’s letter to DoT
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  11 Mar 2010

The Supreme Court asked new entrant S Tel to file an affidavit within two days explaining why it approached the DoT over grant of new 2G licences when the matter was sub-judice, reports the PTI.

"Why has S Tel written a letter to the government when we are hearing the case?" asked a bench comprising of Justices B Sudershan and S.S Nijjar.

The matter will come up for hearing on Friday.

Last week DoT ordered S Tel to immediately stop its services over some ‘security’ concerns which later on emerged that were pertaining to lawful interception measures adopted by the operator. Following this S Tel executives met Communications Minister, A Raja.

Subsequently on Tuesday the company submitted a letter saying that it is reviewing its strategy and hence may not apply for grant of 2G licences in remaining 16 circles.
