US-based Qualcomm which has applied to bid for BWA spectrum auctions in India is in talks with GTL towards forming a joint venture, reports the Economic Times quoting its sources.
Indian regulations for 3G and BWA require any foreign entity to have a local partner. GTL may not only serve this requirement but may also provide value-add on through its significantly large telecom infrastructure which is estimated to be over 50,000 towers.
The ET report adds that Tulip Telecom may also join the venture and the company might use TD-LTE as a measure to provide last mile connectivity to its enterprise customers.
Qualcomm is pitching to use the BWA spectrum in the 2.3 GHz for TD-LTE technology standard which is a 4G technology like WiMAX. |
