Bharti Airtel asks govt not to change existing spectrum policies
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  27 May 2010

With TRAI’s new recommendations on 2G spectrum allocation and pricing set to cast a heavy impact on its prospects in the Indian telecom space, leading operator, Bharti Airtel on Wednesday asked the government to continue with the existing policies and not to change as per TRAI’s recommendations.

The company warned the government against imposing one time charge on the mobile operators holding spectrum over 6.2 MHz as suggested by TRAI reasoning that no such fee can be slapped on previous allocations.

Bharti also asked the government to continue with the practice of allotting additional spectrum based on subscriber base.

Bharti’s move follows TDSAT quashing a petition filed by incumbent GSM operators challenging TRAI’s new recommendations.
