The China Business Forum held in Shanghai came at the right time for Chinese telecom vendors who used the forum to highlight the issue of ban on import of their solutions by the Indian government.
Dr. D K Ghosh, Chairman and Managing Director, ZTE Telecom India called upon increasing cooperation between the two countries in the field of telecommunications.
On the issue of security concerns pertaining to Chinese-made telecom gear, Dr. Ghosh said, ““As a company listed in the Hong Kong & Shenzhen stock exchanges, over the last 25 years of our existence, ZTE has being supplying secured equipment and solution to over 500 operators in 140 countries.” He further stated that if Chinese telecom equipment companies are not allowed to operate in India, the cost of such a scenario will be borne by the consumers, as the lack of healthy competition in the telecom sector will lead to extra costs of 3G services and hence, result in high CAPEX and OPEX of network deployment for the telecom operators.”
He added that the company has been present in India for over a decade now and employs more than 7,000 professionals directly or indirectly.
“We fully comprehend and respect the security concerns of the Indian government and strictly adhere to the policies and laws of the country. While discussions and communication with the government is still on, we are sure that we will be getting a positive response from the government.”
He further added, “We intend to closely work with the government and industry in the Indian business environment and will continue to cherish the relationships that we have built with customers and partners here. We will also continue to establish our commitment to India as a strategic market.”
The India-China Business Forum was attended by Honorable President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil and is part of series of events lined up for Indian President’s week long state visit to China. |
