Ericsson will provide its HD (high definition) system to DTH player, DishTv which will enable the operator to to improve its satellite bandwidth efficiency, increase channel capacity and offer more choice to its subscribers in HD and SD.
According to Ericsson, post deployment of the solution, subscribers of DishTv will be able to view new SD channels without having to swap existing MPEG-2 set-top boxes (STBs).
As part of the deal, Ericsson will deploy its EN8100 MPEG-2 and EN8190 MPEG-4 AVC encoders and will also provide a combined SD MPEG-2 and HD MPEG-4 AVC system in the same transponder space.
