Opera Software’s mobile browser, Opera Mini browser registered surged usage in the Indian market in the month of May 2010 with page views recording a 322.1 % growth on a yearly comparison while unique user growth was 324.2%.
Page views per user stood at an average rate of 390. Data transferred per user was at 8 MB for the month while data transferred per page view was at 21 KB.
For the Indian market, it is observed that users are more likely to do browsing with Opera Mini between noon and 4pm.
The top 10 sites in India in terms of unique users who accessed internet using Opera Mini were google.com, orkut.com, facebook.com, youtube.com, yahoo.com, wikipedia.org, songs.pk (up from 8), zedge.net (up from 9), my.opera.com (up from 10) and getjar.com (back on the list)
Top handsets in India were Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 2700c, Nokia 3110c, Nokia N70, Nokia 6300, Nokia 2730c, Nokia 7210, Nokia N73, Nokia N72 and Nokia 2690.
“Our servers compress more than four petabytes of data each month, and that number shows no signs of slowing,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software. “As more consumers use increasingly vast amounts of mobile data, it looks like we will need more people looking after our servers in the evening hours. The heaviest mobile browsing worldwide occurs between 8 p.m. and midnight, regardless of where people live, their current economic situation, or the availability of broadband.” |
