  Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is in negotiations with Motorola Inc. towards acquiring the latter’s telecommunications equipment business, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The WSJ reports that the deal may be valued in the range of $1.1 billion to $ 1.3 billion and is likely to be completed in the next few weeks.
The move if materializes will increase NSN’s share in the global telecom gear market. Presently Ericsson is leading the pack. But Chinese major, Huawei Technologies is giving a tough time to these traditional European vendors. The move is also in lines with NSN’s strategy of pursuing expansion by way of acquisition and partnerships.
Motorola has already spun off its business divisions and is focusing in reviving its handset terminal business. The company’s product portfolio includes solutions catering to the 4G ecosystem such as WiMAX and LTE. |
