RCom sets up separate business unit for 3G services

Reliance Communications (RCom) announced the setting up of its new 3G Innovation Lab as the company prepares itself to launch 3G services in 13 circles where it has won spectrum.

Furthermore the company has elevated Prashant Gokram to head the 3G business unit.  Till his new appointment, Prashant was serving as Head-Corporate Strategy. His earlier stints include with Spectrum, Anderson Consulting and S2T.

In his new role, Prashant will report to RCom-Wireless Business President & CEO, Syed Safawai,

Additionally the company has also roped in former Google Head-Wireless Business, Suresh Jayaraju as Head-New Age VAS. He will report to Prashant.

According to RCom, the Lab will facilitate the development of mobile service innovations through collaboration with 3rd party developers. It will be based on Open Platforms to encourage open source ecosystem.

Commenting on RCOM’s 3G Innovation Lab, Prashant Gokarn, Head – 3G Business, Reliance Communications said, “Our 3G Innovation Lab will drive all 3G innovations for mobile as well as other platforms. It will aid in demystifying 3G technology and make it simpler for adoption amongst cross-section of customer groups.”
