The data published is totally false. With the entry of new players in the market, what is selling is SIMs and not new customers. One customer is buying 4 to 5 SIMs just to get benifit 'free talk time' In the market you are getting sIM for free or Rs 10 with a bonus talk time between Rs 40 to Rs 50. So SIMs are used as Recharge Vouchers and then thrown when used. So, activation of SIM is not acqusition of new customers. The defination of net base must be the number of active subcribers who make outgoing calls. Such misreporting of data is misleading and cheating.

Absolutely agree with Samir. At 600Mn Subs, given India's 1Bn Population, this means that more than 50% of the population has a phone = 1 in 2 people. And if one applies the filter of age on the population, that is we consider only people who are 12Yrs+ of age, the percentage still shoots up. The figures are complete rubbish and absurd. Its time TRAI took telco's to task!
