Nokia’s Chennai plant bagged the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 2010, under the Telecom/IT-Hardware category; instituted by the World Environment Foundation (WEF). The jury for the award selection was headed by Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and Member, UN Human Rights Commission. Kirsty Britz – Senior Global Campaign Manager, Nokia Southwood formally accepted the award on behalf of Nokia India Pvt. Ltd presented at a special Award function held recently at the National Liberal Club in London.
More than 380 organizations including big corporate houses in India applied for the prestigious award this year. The key factors taken into consideration during the selection process were Environmental governance, Legal compliance, Training and awareness on environment protection, Monitoring of environmental performance and Clean technologies.
