Senior Supreme Court advocate Prashant Bhushan has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran''s tenure in the government.
“It appears that former telecommunications minister Dayanidhi Maran, Rajathi Ammal and Dayalu Ammal (former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's wives) have not been investigated properly,” Bhushan told DNA. “The affidavit has been filed to bring it to the notice of the court the facts that never saw the light of the day.”
Bhushan said that as a co-petitioner in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, it was his duty to bring the lack of investigation to the court’s notice.
Since Maran was the telecom minister then, the affidavit states that this is ‘a clear case of corruption and that it be investigated thoroughly by the CBI.’
The affidavit further questions the violation of the 74 per cent Foreign Direct Investment cap by Aircel.
The affidavit says that while 74 per cent stake owners invested Rs 7800 crore, the remaining 26 per centstake holders invested only Rs 34 crore. Stating that the foreign entities own nearly 99 per cent of the company, the affidavit demands an investigation in the flouting of FDI norms set by the government.
The affidavit also requests a probe into the roles that M Karunanidhi’s wives Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal played in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
While Dayalu Ammal received kickbacks from DB Realty for Kalaignar TV, Rajathi Ammal received hundreds of crores worth of land from the Tatas, the affidavit alleges. |
