2G scam: Ministry of Corp Affairs takes U-turn on Loop Telecom
TT Correspondent |  |  15 Jun 2011

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is believed to have informed the telecom department that Loop Telecom was not an ''associate' of the Ruias-promoted Essar Group.

This is not in sycn with  its earlier report of 2009 in which it mentioned of  "significant links and benefits" arising to Santa Trading Private Ltd (STPL), a company that owns Loop telecom, from "financial transactions, direct and indirect with the Essar Group".

The basis of the contradiction is the reference of Registrar of Companies in Mumbai which found that Essar Group held only 2.15% stake in Loop Telecom in September 2007 when the latter applied for a pan-India mobile permit. MCA mentioned this in a April 2011 communication.
