According to the latest data released by telecom regulatory authority Trai the top three GSM operators – Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone – together account for 60% of the country''s active mobile subscribers. While Idea has maximum active mobile connections at 92.9%, Airtel with 89.5% is a close second.
The report suggests that Airtel and Idea were in close contest for the top slot. Airtel led the tally till February with over 90% active subscribers, but in the last two months Idea Cellular notched the top slot. Vodafone and Reliance Communications (RCom) had 80.8% and 63.6% active subscribers at the end of April. The national average stands at 70.6 % active users across networks. |
