TT Correspondent |  |  31 Mar 2012

Essar group promoters Ravi and Anshuman Ruia and Loop Telecom promoters IP Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan facing probe in the 2G scam appeared before a Delhi court on Saturday.

They also filed their bail pleas after they appeared before Special CBI Judge OP Saini.

The CBI demanded more time more time to file its response on the bail plea following which the court listed the case for April 21.

Essar and Loop group, chargesheeted along with its promoters, on February 9 had moved the apex court challenging the criminal proceeding against it before the special CBI court in the 2G case.

Essar had moved the apex court saying that they should not be investigated by the CBI as they have not been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Ruias, the promoters of Essar Group and the Khaitans figured in the third chargesheet filed by the CBI on December 12. They face accusation of creating Loop for getting more spectrum.

According to the agency Essar group floated Loop Telecom flouting telecom guidelines. Essar holds sizeable shares in the existing operating company Vodafone.

Essar Group’s Ravi Ruia, son Anshuman Ruia and Ruia brothers’ sister Kiran Khaitan and her husband IP Khaitan were also named in the new chargesheet.

They failed to appear in the court thrice following which they were asked by the court to appear in person thrice with a warning.

Khaitans have also cited their "poor health" condition as additional ground in support of their exemption pleas. The court had granted them exemption.
