DoT approaches Attorney General on entry fee refund
TT Correspondent |  |  19 Nov 2012

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is believed to have approached Attorney General for his legal advice on the issue of refunding/adjusting entry fee to the telecom operators who lost spectrum licences, reports PTI.

The Supreme Court in its February 2 verdict had cancelled 122 spectrum licences which were alleged to be rigged. Of the eight telecom operators whose licences were cancelled, only three-Idea, Vodafone and Telenor- participated in the auction.

The telecom panel had decided that the entry fee of only those operators who win spectrum in the auction be adjusted. DoT has sought Attorney General’s opinion whether EGoM’s decision is applicable to all operators who licences were cancelled.

Several telecom operators such as Etisalat DB, Sistema Shyam, ByCell, S Tel, and Loop Telecom have sent notices the government seeking protection of their investment, the report said.
