TT Correspondent |  |  21 Dec 2012

The shares of country’s leading telco tumbled on Friday after the CBI filed charges against it which are related to alleged irregularities in allocation of spectrum during the NDA rule in 2002.

Along with Airtel CBI also filed charges against two Vodafone companies- Hutchison Max and Sterling Cellular and former Telecom Secretary Shyamal Ghosh.

Late Pramod Mahajan who was the telecom minister during NDA rule was believed to haveallotted addition spectrum to these companies violating the norms of telecom policy.

According to PTI, the accused have been charge sheeted under section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The investigations are a sequel to the 2G scam which took place during the tenure of the former telecom minister A Raja. In its verdict the Supreme Court in February had cancelled all the 122 spectrum licences allotted in 2008.
