Sony which according to the research firm IDC holds fourth spot in global smartphone market after Apple, Samsung and Huawei is expecting to expand its share and move to number three spot through Experia series of smartphones.
Currently it has market share of a 4.5 behind Huawei with 4.9 per cent, apple and Samsung which dominate the global smartphone market with more than 50%.
Kunimasa Suzuki, the head of Sony's mobile business, said on Monday that that the company is looking to grab the number three spot by beating Huawei.
Though Sony is believed to be working on cheaper smartphones for emerging market it also betting on the success of Xeria series of smartphones.
Last month Sony Mobile Mobile said that it is committed to the premium smartphone and tablet segments. Kazuo Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Corporation, and Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications and EVP, Corporate Executive Officer of Sony Corporation, restated the importance of mobile to Sony’s overall strategy and declared Sony’s intention to further enhance the premium mobile segment. Additionally, Sony Mobile announced that the highly anticipated Xperia Tablet Z will be available globally, and that its award-winning flagship smartphone, Xperia Z, is available now across 60 countries.

Xperia Z has already received positive endorsement from a host of operators, and following strong support in the Japanese domestic market, it also looks set to follow suit globally with the widest operator ranging to date.
