U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh on Friday ordered that Apple patent lawsuit against Samsung over Siri patents will not be suspended, according to Reuters.
The agancy said that the case related to patents not discussed in the landmark Apple v. Samsung jury trial. This involves search technology used in Apple's Siri virtual assistant. Judge Koh has directed both Apple and Samsung "significantly" streamline their assertions but paring down the number of claims and associated expert testimony.
In a landmark verdict Apple won a $1.05 billion for damages against Samsung which was reduced by $450 million by Koh last week. Ordering a new trial to recalculate damages for those products Koh said that mistakes had been made in determining when Apple had first notified Samsung about the alleged violations of patents for its trend-setting iPhone and iPad.
The judge had already rejected Apple's request for a permanent sales ban against several Samsung phones.
Last month the judge asked counsel from both companies if the case should be put on hold until after the conclusion of hearings regarding the verdict handed in by the Apple v. Samsung trial jury last August.
