Chinese handset giant Huawei on Tuesday indicated that it is going to assert its supremacy in Indian handset market by selling one million smartphones in the country by the end of this year.

Not only this it will spend 1.75 billion rupees (US$30 million) to build its brand and strengthen its retail presence in India.

These revelations came at the time of launch of its 6.1-inch Ascend Mate smartphone in India which has a price tag of Rs.24,900. Huawei has tie-up with stores such as  Croma, Ezone and online sites like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Shopclues, to sell its devices in India. The Ascend Mate phablet, was launched  at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year.

“We will invest about 8-10 per cent of our mobile devices revenue in India. In 2012, our India revenue was $300 million. The spend would be mainly in strengthening our retail presence and brand building exercise,” Huawei President (India Device Business Development) Victor Shan said.

Huawei Ascend Mate comes with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The Ascend Mate runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and powered by quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. It comes with a 4,050 mAh battery. It has 8-megapixel autofocus shooter at the rear and a 1-megapixel front camera for capturing self-images and video chat.

According to experts it will take on Samsung Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3. Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is a dual-SIM device that has a 5.8-inch screen with qHD(540x960 pixels) resolution.

The Ascend Mate weighs 198g and has Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot as connectivity options.

Meanwhile, Huawei launched its Ascend P6 flagship smartphone in London. The specifications of the device were leaked last week.
