Bharti Airtel continues to lead the pack as India's mobile subscriber base increased from 86.7 crore in April 2013 to 87 crore at the end of May 2013, registering a monthly growth of 0.37%, according to latest figures released by the regulator TRAI.

As per new data released by operators, Airtel’s subscriber base stood at 18.96 crore. Airtel is followed by Vodafone with over 15.46 crore customers. RCom and Idea Cellular are at third and fourth spots with 12.48 crore and 12.37 crore subscribers respectively.
In terms of new additions RCom emerged number one with 12 lakh new subscribers followed by Vodafone with over 9 lakh new additions. Next comes Idea Cellular with 8.67 lakh, and Airtel with 8.51 lakh new customers. Aircel added 2.77 lakh new customers.

But here is bad news for State-run BSNL and MTNL who lost 9 lakh and 97,583 customers respectively in May. They now have subscriber base of 9.80 crore and 48 lakhs respectively.

Overall, the telephone subscriber base in India has moved up for the second consecutive month after months of decline. As the latest data released by TRAI it increased to 900.05 million at the end of May, 2013 from 897.02 million at the end of April 2013, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.34%.
