Home ministry seeks clarity over interception of communication network from DoT
TT Correspondent |  |  16 Sep 2013

The home ministry has sought clarity from the department of telecom on intercepting telephone calls, voice-mails, emails and other services like BlackBerry Messenger while maintaining that it must lay down certain guidelines for this.

Expressing its objections over national telecom security policy, the ministry said that the guidelines must empower only law security agencies to intercept communication network

The telecom department had sought the National Information Board's approval on the draft telecom security policy before referring it to the Cabinet Committee on Security for final approval.

These objection are believed to be conveyed to NIB too. Once NIB clears the draft, it will be presented before the Cabinet committee on security headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for final approval.
