With telecom operators in India keen on rolling out 4G services, handset makers too are eying new market by launching 4G-enabled smartphones.
Two domestic handset makers Micromax and XOLO are expected to come out with 4G smartphones soon. While Micromax who is number two after Samsung in smarrphone market in India may start selling 4G smartphones as early as December, Xolo is learnt to be planning to bring it even sooner, in November. Micromax is planning to capture about a third (about 33%) of the Indian smartphone market over the next two years.
Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma told Economic Times that the company is betting on LTE and its devices supporting LTE could be ready by December.
The leading telecom operator Airtel has launched 4G services in Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, and Chandigargh, Mohali and Panchkula and may soon roll out threes services in New Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala.
Reliance Industries may also launch its own pan-India 4G service under the Jio brand soon. It recently got unified telecom licence that will enable it to offer voice telephony and high speed data services across the country.
Apart from Micromax, another local handset maker Xolo may also unveil its 4G capable smartphone called Xolo LT900, a report by GSMArena said.
According to the report Xolo LT900 smartphone will featuring 4 .3-inch HD IPS OGS display with a pixel density of 341 ppi will be powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. The rumored device will have an 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor. The price and other technical specifications have not been revealed.
