In a move to drive data growth Vodafone India, country’s second largest telecom operator in terms of subscribers has slashed mobile intent charges by 80 percent for its all pre-paid and post-paid customers on 2G across the country
For the past few months the telecom operators in India have been focusing on data usage to improve ARPU in rural and semi-urban regions. . It said this is part of its strategy to boost mobile internet.
The analysts feel that other leading operators like Airtel, Idea and RCom may follow suit. All these operators significantly cut 2G tariff in June and July.
The new data plans would be applicable from November 1, 2013 on 2G on a ‘Pay as you Go’ basis. It said that Pay as you Go rates are same for both 2G and 3G across the country. It said this part of its strategy to boost mobile internet.
Earlier in June, the company had successful launched new internet plans in 3 circles - Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh.
“This attractive and lowest mobile internet charge is now being rolled out pan India”, it said in statement.
“The rate cut from 10p/10KB to 2p/10KB will make the Internet more affordable for customers who use mobile internet in a limited way. These new PAYG rates, which are the same for both 2G and 3G, are the lowest in market, making them extremely attractive for all customers across the country” it said in a statement.
Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India said, “This 80% reduction in Mobile Internet charges for customers using 2G is an important step in our strategy to drive mobile internet and we are confident that this move will facilitate in faster adoption and better usage.”
Vodafone has been hand holding customers to use mobile internet and educating current and potential users about how internet can add significant value to them.
The company is also building content partnerships, simplifying pricing, educating retailers and offering choice to customer basis their interests and consumption patterns.
It is now clear that telecom operators are now focusing on mobile internet penetration which has seen a huge upswing in the country. |
