After a trial that lasted one week, a Silicon Valley jury on Thursday awarded Apple Inc about $290 million more in damages against Samsung.
Apple was previously awarded $1.05 billion after it convinced a jury that Samsung copied various iPhone features.
This is related to 13 Samsung devices which were found to have infringed Apple patents.
Apple had requested for $380 million, contending Samsung’s copying cost it a significant amount of sales, according to AP.
The argument of South Korean tech giant Samsung was that it owed only $52 million because the features at issue weren’t the reasons most consumers chose to buy Samsung’s devices instead of Apple’s.
An Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said that for Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money.
“While it’s impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost”, she told AP. |
