T.V. Ramachandran, Resident Director, Regulatory Affairs, Vodafone India has been awarded an honorary fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for his contribution to mobile telephony in India,
Ramachandran received the award in a heritage event venue called The Brewery in Central London.
An MSc in Physics with specialisation in wireless and electronics, Ramachandran is also currently Chairman of the National Telecom Council of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India as well as Co-Chairman of the Telecom Committee of the European Business Group in India.
Ramachandran was the first CEO of Essar Cellphone (now part of Vodafone India), one of India’s earliest cellular service providers, who spearheaded the establishment and commercial launch of the country’s largest capacity cellular network in 1995. In September 1997, he was appointed Director General of the Cellular Operators’ Association of India, the premier body for mobile communications in India, leading the organisation for 12 years.
He was Founder-Chairman of the Indian Chapter of the worldwide GSM Association.
As an ambassador for the mobile telephony industry, his vast experience, consensus-based approach and adroit diplomacy have helped transform India into one of the world’s fastest-growing mobile communications markets. |
