With its focus on Indian market, MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, showcased its innovative connectivity and home entertainment solutions for the first time in India.
MediaTek is the world’s second largest provider of smart-TV chips globally.
MediaTek said that it is showcasing a bouquet of wireless ADSL routers, 3G dongles, M2M solutions, IPTV products as well as its futuristic Miracast dongle powered by MediaTek at the India Telecom 2013, one of the country’s largest telecom conferences being held in the capital, organized by the Department of Telecom, Government of India and FICCI.

The company said that for the first time, the Indian audiences will also be able to see a live demonstration of the much-awaited Miracast dongle for TVs. The Miracast dongle, powered by MediaTek’s MT8633 platform, supports features such as Airplay and DLNA, which enable users to seamlessly watch content from tablets and other mobile devices on their large TV screens with or without an internet access point.
It said that he Miracast dongle will change the way consumers connect mobile devices to TV by creating a seamless experience, not just for audio and video but also for games and other multimedia content. Devices with this technology are expected to be launched in India by Q1 2014.
MediaTek is also displaying MT6280 3G/HSPA+ thin-modem platform, which powers Micromax’s first plug-and-play 3G dongle that can deliver blazing fast speeds of 14.4Mbps and can upload files at a speed of 5.76Mbps.
The chipset supports HSPA+ data rates, receive diversity and comes as a highly-integrated, single-chip baseband and RF SoC (System on Chip) that offers small size, low power and leading data modem performance. Also, on display will be MediaTek’s ADSL router, supporting 802.11 b/g/n. MediaTek technology powers Teracom, which supplies ADSL routers and broadband solutions to BSNL.
MediaTek is also showcasing advanced and innovative M2M modules developed by Quectel such as M95, L70, L80 and L76 that support GSM/GPRS/GPS capabilities. For the home entertainment and consumer electronics segment, MediaTek is displaying its high-quality IPTV set-top box from UTStarcom, one of India’s leading players in IPTV and a MediaTek partner. MediaTek was the first company to launch 120Hz & connect/3D TV experience.
The recently launched octa-core platform by MediaTek, the MT6592, is a part of the display portfolio at the exhibit, along with other mobile communication offerings, such as the MT6572 dual-core and the MT6582/MT6589T quad core along with other Tablet platforms. |
