Gujarat’s chief minister Narendra Modi’s popularity is not just confined to big rallies that he held in recent assembly elections. He enjoys a larger than life image on social networking site Facebook as well.
BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections Narendra Modi has edged out India’s cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar to become the most talked about person on Facebook in India.
In the process he has even surpassed the popularity of Apple’s iPhone 5s, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and India's Mars mission, according to Facebook.
Facebook which has 82 million MAUs (monthly active users) in India for the quarter ending June 31, 2013 disclosed that Sukhdev Dabha at Murthal (Haryana) was the most talked about place followed by Golden Temple in Amritsar, Bangla Sahib Gurudwar in Connaught Place and India Gate in New Delhi.
These days the popularity of the political personalities in India is being judged by their followers on Facebook. There have even been allegations of creating fake identities to take on the rivals.
After Modi, Sachin Tendulkar and iPhone 5, the other top Check-ins on Facebook in India in 2013 are Sukhdev dhaba, Murthal, Golden Temple, Jalandhar, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, New Delhi, Connaught Place, New Delhi, Prasads IMAX, Hyderabad India Gate, New Delhi, Marine Drive, Mumbai, Taj Mahal, Agra, Starbucks Coffee , Connaught Place, New Delhi PVR , and MBD Neopolis Jalandhar in that order. |
