Samsung dragged in Google in the patent case with Apple. During trials in a court in San Jose, the company said that Apple was basically trying to limit consumer choice and gain an unfair advantage over Google’s Android.
Lawyers for Apple objected to Google being dragged in the case. Seeking $2 billion in damages, they had come prepared to show evidence that Samsung desperately needed superior design.
Seeking $2 billion in damages, the Apple lawyers said that the company would have demanded royalties of about $40 per device to license the patented technology to Samsung. Samsung had sold more than 37 million infringing smartphones and tablets in the United States. Hence the total amount comes out to be about $2 billion.
Prior to this, a federal jury found the South Korean firm was infringing on Apple patents. Samsung was ordered to pay about $900 million but is appealing and has been allowed to continue selling products using the technology.
Apple claims the following Samsung products now infringe on Apple patents: Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy SII Skyrocket, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Tab II 10.1, and Stratosphere whereas Samsung claims the following Apple products infringe on Samsung patents: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPod touch (5th generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and MacBook Pro. |
