Vodafone sales had fallen 4.2 per cent to £9.4bn in the three months ending in June, with shrinking sales in Europe. In Spain revenues declined 15.3% year on year where as in India unit 10.3% increase in April-June.
Vodafone India’s 10.3% increase in its services revenue at Rs 10,323 crore in the first quarter ended June 30.
The unit's total revenue for the quarter fell nearly 6%.
Whereas Shares in Vodafone have fallen 9% in the last three months, underperforming the European telecoms index by 11%.
The revenue drop was due to regulatory changes in South Africa where no growth for Vodacom unit and also in Spain, where competition increased and the market shifted towards cheaper SIM-only deals, resulted in service revenue falling 15.3%.
Germany, where improvement seen and a focus on 4G, voice and data plans increased the number of customers.
Data usage by its subscribers in India more than doubled in the past quarter; increase in call rates and also in India added 3.3 million subscribers in the quarter. Vittorio Colao said the company expects very strong growth in demand for data in India and recovery in Europe. |
