Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet Apple CEO Tim Cook in San Francisco during his U.S. trip later this month. Apple's sales of i-Phones in India increased by 93 percent in the third quarter.
It is believed that, Apple is looking to invest in building manufacturing capacities in India, which could come as a huge boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' project and also Apple might consider facilities in India to refurbish its products. Refurbishing is currently not allowed under India's industrial policy.
The Foxconn which has promised to invest around $5 billion in a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra as well.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet other Indian-American entrepreneurs from the Silicon Valley during his US trip.
He will be on a visit to the US and Ireland from 23 September to 29 September, during his visit, he will address the UN General Assembly and also visit Google headquarters in the Silicon Valley as well. |
