4G provides a big opportunity to MediaTek, aims to corner 10% market share
TT Correspondent |  |  16 May 2016

Taiwan-based MediaTek is bullish on India market. The company will power 25 new models of Voice Over LTE handsets with its Chipsets in the coming months. It aims to target 10% of the global sales from India.

Micromax, Karbonn and Lava are among its major clients. MediaTek shipped 160 million LTE chipsets in 2015. This is four times growth over 40 million that it provided in the previous year.

India is witnessing launch of 4G services by leading players. Airtel and Vodaofne have already entered in the field, though their subscriber base is still very small. It is expected that when Reliance Jio launches its services, somewhere towards the end of the year, there will be an explosion of 4G services in India.

Internationally, Qualcomm is the main competitor of MediaTek.
