Real Estate major Unitech''s telecom subsidiary, Unitech Wireless has awarded its GSM network rollout contract to Chinese firm Huawei and France-based Alcatel-Lucent as per reports quoting unnamed sources. The move if true, leaves other contenders Ericsson and ZTE out of the race.
The Unitech deal is estimated to be close to $ 400 million. As per reports, Huawei has bagged contract worth $ 225 million out of this value.
The deal will require the vendors to design, install and manage the GSM network of the new entrant.
Unitech had also awarded an IT outsourcing contract to Wipro Infotech for a similar amount.
New entrants are facing heat from the government over alleged delay in rolling out their respective networks as per the rollout obligations.
Telenor is a major investor in Unitech Wireless.
