France-based telco Alcatel-Lucent said Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement with Portugal Telecom (PT) to render fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology.
Portugal Telecom, which is set to set up next generation network to enable citizens have access to high speed and high quality services, will leverage Alcatel-Lucent''s GPON technology.
With this technology, Portugal Telecom will be able to offer very high-speed access to residential and business users, enabling them to simultaneously watch several high-definition TV channels and to surf the Internet 10 times faster.
“Through the partnership with Alcatel-Lucent, we can continue to deploy new and advanced service offerings… With Alcatel-Lucent's GPON platform, we can offer an unmatched HDTV experience and the fastest Internet download and upload speeds," said Zeinal Bava, CEO of Portugal Telecom, in a statement.
“The new optical fibre network will be the network for the next 100 years,” added Bava.
Financial details of the deal remained under the wraps. |
