Huawei Technologies has trumped Ericsson Inc. to rise as the world’s biggest wireless communications base station vendor by the end of 2008, said a report from EJL Wireless Research.
The Chinese original equipment manufactures (OEM), comprising of Huawei, ZTE Corp, Datang Telecom and FiberHome Networks, now account for 40 percent of the total global BTS (base transceiver station) market.
“Asia Pacific remains the driving force for global shipments as China, India and other Southeast Asian countries continue to aggressively deploy 2G/3G networks,” said research firm EJL''s President Earl Lum.
Notably, the overall global base station market grew by 27.8 percent in units in 2008, outstripping the industry forecasts.
Besides, Ericsson led as the largest GSM supplier, while Nokia Siemens Networks proved its leadership in W-CDMA. |
