After serving the Windows and Windows line division as a squadron for over a year, Steven Sinofsky on Wednesday was promoted as president of the Windows division.
With this, Sinofsky will take care of the Windows business, including both the engineering and marketing functions for Windows, Windows Live and Internet Explorer.
Earlier in 2008, the software giant divided its platforms and services division in two, with the newly formed Windows/Windows Live unit being headed by Sinofsky, Jon DeVaan and Bill Veghte.
Sinofsky, backed with an experience of 20 years, began his career at Microsoft in 1989 in engineering and has held various roles at the company. About three years ago, Sinofsky was positioned at Windows by the CEO Steve Ballmer after product-development problems delayed the Vista operating system by two years.
Before he was moved in Windows, Sinofsky supervised the development of the Office suite, handling word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail, where he delivered an upgrade every two to three years.
Simultaneously, Microsoft also announced that Tami Reller, the current chief financial officer for the Windows division, will assume an additional responsibility of sales and marketing as Bill Veghte gets placed into a new undisclosed role.
However, DeVaan will continue with his role as senior vice president.
The new changes in the management are scheduled be effective by late July.
