Qualcomm said it plans to expand its MediaFLO mobile over-the-air television service to more consumer electronic devices, including in-car and portable media players, as it also looks to further itself as an infrastructure for mobile operators to deliver other types of content.
The offering, which will be available in a six months’ period, will be rolled out in association with Audiovox.
With FLO TV to in-car entertainment systems, consumers will be able to watch broadcasts on LCD while on the move, said Chief Operating Officer Len Lauer.
Further by next year, the range of products that carry MediaFLO will expand significantly across portable music players, handheld gaming devices, personal navigation devices and other such platforms, said the company.
The company said it is also working on bringing out accessories that works with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB connectivity to connect with existing phones to deliver the service.
By the end of this year, MediaFLO will have a national network with over 200 million U.S. residents plugged on. |
