Oracle and Sun Microsystems showcased today what to expect once the two companies formally merge as the tie-up unveiled a new Exadata Database Machine Version 2 which they claim is the world’s fastest machine for both data warehousing and online transaction processing (OLTP).
The machine makes use of Sun’s FlashFire technology, Oracle Database 11g Release 2 and Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software Release 11.2. The use of FlashFire technology in particular ehnaches performance and scalability for OLTP say the companies. The alliance claims that the machine can store over 10 times the data as stored by Oracle customers and also search data 10 times faster without making any changes to applications.
“Exadata Version 1 was the world’s fastest machine for data warehousing applications,” said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. “Exadata Version 2 is twice as fast as Exadata V1 for data warehousing, and it’s the only database machine that runs OLTP applications. Exadata V2 runs virtually all database applications much faster and less expensively than any other computer in the world.” |
