RCom too jumps into the 50 paise tariff wagon; launches ‘Simply Reliance Plan’ for all services
TT Correspondent |  Mumbai |  05 Oct 2009

It is no secret that Indian mobile services market is price sensitive and taking a cue from this fact  Mumbai-based Reliance Communications (RCom) today unveiled a new tariff structure offering a flat 50 paise per minute tariff for conventional services including local, STD, local SMS, international SMS, incoming roaming and outgoing roaming.

The offer is available over the GSM as well as CDMA platform ad covers prepaid as well as postpaid subscribers.  The plan is valid for all 24 hours and includes calls made to other networks as well. For prepaid subscribers the plan is available without any additional monthly rental. Existing and new subscribers need to purchase one time special tariff voucher priced at Rs 48 to avail this plan. The voucher is valid for lifetime.

Reliance says that its offering is different than other competing schemes available in the market as it also allows postpaid subscribers to benefit out of low tariffs. For postpaid subscribers, the new tariff is available for monthly subscription fee of Rs.99.

With the new offer RCom is firstly targeting all those subscribers which may find the tariff structure of Tata Teleservices appealing. This may impact the new subscriber additions of Tata Teleservices. RCom has decided to maintain a same plan for both GSM and CDMA subscribers. This is in contrast to Tata Teleservices strategy of having two different tariff structures for GSM and CDMA subscribers. While the GSM offering of TTSL are priced under per second pulse, the CDMA services are offered under flat rate of 1 minute irrespective of the time duration of the call.

Secondly RCom is making an effort to match footsteps of competitors who have already launched 50 paise tariff plans.
