Google may bid for WiMAX spectrum in India
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  27 Oct 2009

Global internet giant, Google may bid for upcoming WiMAX spectrum in India, reports the Business Standard.

While Google has not officially confirmed the development, the report states that Google may end-up either directly bidding for the spectrum or partnering a local firm as technology partner.

The DoT has allowed foreign firms to participate in the auction process.

WiMAX is considered to be a viable proposition for Greenfield operators and new entrants who have to erect an altogether new infrastructure right from scratch.

Google offers voice services back home in USA and recently came under flak for the same as there were allegations that it was restricting the access of the service to rural areas.
