Ericsson bags contract for Grameenphone’s 2G network

Ericsson’s Bangladesh unit today bagged a network expansion order from the country’s leading mobile service provider, Grameenphone in which Telenor has majority stake.

The contract is spread over a period of two years includes providing charging solutions for the network as well as other related services.

The deal will include upgrading the operator’s packet-switched and circuit-switched core network as well as upgrading the radio access network and supply, deployment and systems integration of Ericsson's Mobile Packet Backbone Network solution.

 "Ericsson's advanced technology will optimize our network operations and strengthen our ability to evolve and expand our business while preparing our network for future needs," said Oddvar Hesjedal, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone.  

Hakan Rusch, Managing Director of Ericsson Bangladesh, said, "This agreement demonstrates Ericsson's commitment to cultivating long-term, strategic relationships with the aim of creating a competitive advantage for our customers."
