atom technologies and Reliance Communications (RCom) will jointly offer m-commerce platform to banks and financial institutions with an aim to enable RCom’s mobile subscribers to do financial transactions over mobile.
As part of the service, subscriber of RCom will be able to purchase insurance services, DTH recharges, movie tickets, books & periodicals, consumer goods, holiday packages, book bus & train tickets through the use of mobile.
atom claims to have more than 100 merchants registered for m-commerce transactions with merchant acquiring relationship with ICICI, HDFC, Citi and Axis Bank.
Mr. Anil Pande, Head – Product, Mobile Data and Content services, Reliance Communications shares his thoughts by saying, “Our agreement with atom technologies will set the ground for RCOM to make an aggressive pitch in the Indian m-Commerce market. We are positively aggressive on the m-Commerce opportunity & are developing a series of m-Commerce applications as part of this m-Commerce thrust. We will leverage our agreement with atom technologies to drive m-Commerce transactions across both, the GSM and CDMA networks.”

RCom hopes that post tie-up, the alliance will contribute about 30% of the m-commerce traffic on its GSM and CDMA network.
Atom Technologies is a unit of Financial Technologies, better known for its MCDX exchange for commodities.
The two parties were reported to be in talks since September 2009 when it emerged that RCom was aiming a revenue of Rs 800 crore from such m-commerce services. |
