Google Inc after having gobbled up the online space is now focusing on dominating the mobile space as well. Keeping in lines with this focus, the company acquired mobile advertising firm Admob which claims to be the market leader in mobile web-based advertising.
The deal is valued at $ 750 million. The acquisition is on an all-stock deal. Admob competes with other mobile web advertising firms such as JumpTap, Millennial, Mojiva, Mobclix and Quattro Wireless. Admob has an estimated employee strength of 140.
Recently in an interaction with TelecomTiger, Admob’s India Country Manager, Mahesh Narayanan had said that the firm's monthly ad displays numbered more than 8 billion across the globe with US being its number 1 market in terms of traffic. India comes second with almost 700 million ad displays every month.
In terms of value, the acquisition of Admob becomes the third costliest deal for Google.
The decision to acquire Admob is seen as an attempt by Google to save on the time-to-market factor in the mobile advertising space.
One thing is for sure; the mobile advertising segment will benefit a lot from the development as the main challenge being faced by such players was low level of awareness within the advertising community on the benefits of advertising over the mobile medium. |
