Broadband offers tremendous potential for new revenue generation, says Huawei
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  19 Nov 2009

With Indian telecom industry increasingly becoming competitive by the day, operators are on the lookout for new revenue streams. And as per Huawei, ubiquitous broadband offers tremendous opportunities for such new revenue generation.

Huawei feels that Web 2.0, Video 2.0, Social Networking and User Generated Content coupled with new concepts such as Cloud Computing will usher in a demand for content over broadband. The resultant demand will lead to a scenario of broadband speeds of about 24 mbps to meet consumer expectations.

Huawei aims to cash in on the forthcoming demand from operators and is banking on its  All-IP based Broadband network solutions, where it claims to hold leadership position in NGN, IP-DSLAM, GPON, Hybrid Microwave, carrier-grade IP routers and industry leading backhaul.

Huawei promises that its solution will upgrade the present broadband networks to NGN driving fibre access like FTTx/GPON and thereby leading to a flat IP architecture which in turn will lead to a Fixed-Mobile Convergence in the near future.

While refusing to getting into a debate of which is a better technology among 3G and WiMAX, Huawei instead believes that both the technologies will compliment each other’s existence. It foresees that WiMAX will be used for high-speed data applications with less voice component attached to it while 3G will usher a richer VAS ecosystem.
