Nokia sues Samsung, others over alleged cartel formation to increase LCD price
TT Bureau |  |  01 Dec 2009

Nokia sued LCD manufacturers alleging that they have colluded to increase the price of LCD panels.

Samsung is the world’s leading LCD manufacturer and is also named in the suit filed by Nokia. Nokia says the price charged is higher than the market levels.

“The liquid crystal displays were incorporated into Nokia mobile wireless handsets. The conspiracy artificially inflated the price of liquid crystal displays ultimately incorporated into LCD products purchased by Nokia, causing Nokia to pay higher prices,” says Nokia in its lawsuit.

AT&T too had recently filed a similar suit against LCD manufacturers.

Nokia had earlier filed a case against Apple alleging patent infringement and failure to pay royalty/licence fee to Nokia over use of a particular application.
