Telcordia’s MNP presence under Home Ministry lens, says report
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  17 Dec 2009

Telcordia Technologies’ Interconnection Telecom Solutions India which is one of the vendors appointed by DoT to manage Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in India is under the lens of Home Ministry over its minority shareholders being only a front as alleged by Home Ministry having no experience in managing telecom operations, reports the Economic Times. Additionally Telcordia’s presence in Pakistan is also under review.

Indian regulations require that any company rolling out a telecom network in the country needs to have atleast 26% stake of a local domestic player. Deeepak Talwar Consultants is the Indian player owning 26% stake in the JV with Telcordia. But the company has no previous experience of running a telecom network, reports ET. This may lead to a situation wherein the US company Telcordia will effectively end up running the show administratively and technically.

This move may compound the entry of MNP which already looks for a delayed entry following failure of BSNL and MTNL to upgrade their network to be MNP ready.

Syniverse Technologies is the other company appointed by DoT.
