Aircel eyes 100 mn subscribers by 2012
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  15 Jan 2010

Aircel said on Thursday that it is targeting 100 million subscribers by 2012 from the present figures of 31 million.

“Per-second billing is unsustainable. It constrains EBIDTA margins. We will see these tariffs for another year-and-a-half after which consolidation will set in,” said Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh.

“With tariffs hitting all time low, only value-added services could increase revenues,” he added.

The company is banking on revenues from data services and aims to increase contribution from this stream to 11% by 2012 from the existing figure of 7%.

It is aiming to complete its pan-India footprint by June this year. Currently it is present in 18 circles.
